Rufus-centered ficlet (Rufus/Reno hints): The Void Title: The Void - TV - If there was one thing Rufus learned from the disastrous events of Sephiroth and the remnants, it was the fact that his schemes generally never went as planned. Every little detail, from the specific people, to the specific data revealed at the right time and place, had all been rendered useless because of one miscalculated move, like knocking that first domino forward and feeling and watching the rest fall around him. And in retrospect, he realized that he had taken many unnecessary risks. What if Kadaj had been curious enough to look beneath his cloak? What would have happened if they had just destroyed the pieces of JENOVA’s neck? There were many what-ifs, most of them pointless now, but they still made him think. As he looked through his new office window, gazing at the lower part of Junon, he supposed that he was a little more cautious of the secrets he hadn’t been aware of until recently. For all he knew, there were probably other secrets that the Turks weren’t telling him. But things were a little slow now, maybe a little too slow to his liking. With many people rebuilding their towns or villages-- specifically of what was left of Midgar, there were many jobs to do, but most of them weren’t as… exciting, and frankly, were tedious. He was used to the fast life, feeling that thrill and adrenaline pumping in his veins, and living as though any day now would be his last. As peace trudged in, it welcomed the other aspects of life that he didn’t want to deal with--namely the repetitiveness of the routines of life (work, going home, work, going home, and so on). There were times when he wasn’t speaking with Tseng or Elena, when he was trying to vainly ignore Reno’s attempts to distract him - and in how many ways? He had lost count! - that a strange kind of silence would invade the calm, focused stillness of his office and made him freeze. In those moments, he’d feel The Void. He didn’t understand that feeling. Maybe he had too much time to think these days. Maybe he should follow Reno’s idea and rebuild the company. After all, they already have some of the resources here. Junon could even be Neo-Midgar, but that would require a vast amount of money, not to mention the politics he‘d have to meddle with. He wasn’t sure if old methods (fear and power) would work, though he could always use the influence of others (Cloud Strife and his friends), but dealing with them in itself would be another obstacle altogether. But it was better than sitting here in his stuffy office and doing paperwork. Maybe he should take Reno’s suggestion and get a real vacation in Costa Del Sol to clear his mind and work out all the little cracks of his new plans afterwards. With that settled, he let the blinds fall and swiftly went out of the office. He took out his PHS and left a message: “I’ll be joining you soon.” - End - A/n: HAHAHAH, what. Five reasons I wrote this: 1) I was bored 2) I needed to crack down this mental block/writing block 3) I MISS RUFUS 4) I kind of miss writing ff7 stuff in general 5) I kind of wanted to explore something. AND WHERE DID THE RUFUS/RENO HINTS COME FROM, RLY? WHUT.

A/n: Random Rufus-centered ficlet. Only looked through once, will edit more tomorrow. My pride wouldn't allow me to let this thing posted until I edited it at least twice. Damn.
